Rise and shine, everyone! At 7:00 AM on the dot, those who are asleep will be roused from their slumber by the sound of a bugle call. It seems that breakfast is now served in the Mess Hall. How nice! It's up to you to decide if you want to continue sleeping or not... But maybe it's a good idea to grab a bite and explore your surroundings. After all, it looks like you'll be here for a little while.

Regardless of what you do, be sure to check the weather before stepping outside. You never know when you might need an umbrella! Once you're up and at them, though, there are a few points of interest this week.

If you swing by the Director's Office, you will find Black Shadows manning the receptionist's desk or flitting in and out of the rooms down the hallway. This week's tasks are now available, and you can check them out on the announcement board in the waiting room. Should you visit the Camp Shop, Purple Heart will be handling all transactions at the checkout counter. Even camp directors hold down normal jobs, you know. Strangely enough, Winter Wizard doesn't seem to be stationed at any set location. Maybe it's their week off? Oh, well. Seems like if you want to get ahold of them, you'll have to pay your respects to the bunnies.

Finally, though all seems normal at first glance... You will quickly realize something is wrong the moment you start interacting with other people. Or, more specifically, once you come in physical contact with them.

For the rest of the week, anyone who makes skin-to-skin (or whatever counts as skin, for the non-humans) contact with someone else will find themselves in a bit of a sticky situation. Whatever body parts touched will be stuck together for the next hour, with no way to separate them. Try not to create additional points of contact while trying to cheat your way out of this situation, yeah? That would be unpleasant, for each spot will last an entire hour. Good luck.

[ Well, they might as well complete a task while they're here, enjoying each other's mandatory company. Dimitri doesn't look that bothered by the prospect, speaking easily. ]

Oh? Does that mean you've met a fake royal before?

Yyyyep.

[popping that 'p' for emphasis]

The story behind that is fairly complicated, though. I won't bore you with the details.

[ He responds with a slightly wry smile. ]

Well, we do have time to bore each other for a bit.

[ That's fine, though. ]

Most people don't meet proper royalty in their lifetime, but it's not worth any fanfare. You and I are not so different, especially here.

[ They look about the same age and everything, really. ]

[down-to-earth royalty. . . that's a good thing (he thinks) and Akira's lips twitch a bit]

Royalty isn't exactly a. . . ah, "big thing" back home.

[constitutional monarchy, and all that]

But I guess you're right. We really aren't that different.

Right. So while I'd rather we met under nicer conditions— [ see: sticky fingers ] I'd like to get to know everyone here. So perhaps this was fortuitous.

[ In any case, Akira did poke him with a water bottle for a reason, so back to that: ]

Was there something I could help you with, by the by?

Ah--

[well, incidentally. . .]

I was looking for someone to ask about their home worlds. That one of the tasks on the bulletin board, right?

[. . .]

[HOLDS UP THEIR ENJOINED HANDS]

I'll tell you about mine if you tell me about yours.

[ WELL, it'll pass the time, at least. It's either this or waltzing, and this seems more... productive, maybe. Dimitri obviously has no reservations, agreeing easily. ]

Sure. We can consider it a cultural exchange.

I'll throw the first stone: why don't you tell me about the most important place to you, in your world? Whatever or wherever you would call home?

[Akira would do both of these things, he has no shame. and he's more than happy to help a camper out]

Mmm, all right.

[oh boy time to settle in and gush about hIS FAVORITE PLACE IN THE WORLD. Dimitri can even see the way his expression softens fondly as he begins]

Have you met anyone from Japan yet? Specifically, Tokyo?

[ Dimitri's lips curl up a bit, purely from a sort of empathetic appreciation. Japan doesn't exist in his world, but... ]

I've met a few people from Japan, though I am not familiar with the specifics. Is Tokyo a city there?

It is. It's the one I'm-- [he can't say "from" can he?] -- was living in right before being dragged away.

[he misses it, actually. . . it's only been seven weeks but he wants to go back. he has no idea how he's going to survive once he properly returns to his hometown]

It's a large city with buildings as tall as the sky itself and crowds of people so large it's almost impossible to navigate your way through them.

But I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world.

[ Buildings all the way to the sky—even castles couldn't compare to such a feat. He doesn't have a fantastical enough imagination for it, but even so... ]

What a marvel that must be.

[ So he's from a thriving metropolis. ]

Do you attend academy there? Forgive me for assuming, but you seem about the right age for it. [ It doesn't quite sound like his hometown, and it's not unusual for wealthier families to send their children to a large city for training. ]

[it's a bit of an exaggeration, but how else does he describe how tall skyscrapers are? it sure gets the point across]

I do, actually. Shujin Academy.

[a small shrug]

It's a pretty normal prep school, though. Not much special about it.

[other than being plagued with scandals but ha ha. ha]

[ what's school without a little (or a lot) of drama ]

Mundane academy days are enjoyable in their own way, I think.

Eh.

[eh]

I don't know. I don't care for school that much.

Oh? [ Not everyone likes school back home either, he shouldn't really be surprised. ] Forgive me if this is too forward, but may I ask why?

[a pause]

[. . . well, it's not like Akira doesn't have his reasons, but. that might be getting a bit too personal for a first meeting. he keeps his response light]

Being cooped up in a classroom all day really gives a guy cabin fever.

[ He doesn't question it! Classrooms are Stuffy. ]

Certainly so. I prefer the training grounds myself... But beyond that, I think school is a valuable place to learn about and from other people, not just about textbook curriculums.

[ translation, he means making friends ]

[WOW DIMITRI THAT'S PURE]

You're a people person, aren't you?

[ he looks a bit sheepish at that, using his free hand to scrub the back of his neck. ]

No, I'm quite awful with people... But I've begun to appreciate the company of others. It is something to cherish, while we still have it.

[. . .]

[LET'S TRY NOT TO THINK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS ON FRIDAY. . . clears his throat and asks, and though it may seem like a change of subject he is going to relate it back to what they're talking about he swears]

Where were you before you were brought here? I was in the soul-eating mansion, if you've heard about it.

[ they are just here to enjoy camp for 8 weeks it is fine

his demeanor shifts slightly, turning more serious. ]

I've heard of it in passing. I was on the island myself, with a number of others.

Mmm. With Minako and Flayn.

[. . . and Ryuji and Yusuke, though they aren't here]

I asked because I feel like getting stuck in these places and watching people you care about. . . die. . . really puts things into perspective. You know?

[ he nods—there's quite a lot of them here from the island. it seemed that way with the mansion, too, though he's sure both groups of them had suffered a tremendous amount of death regardless of how many survivors are here.

his fingers go tense, like they might clench into a fist if akira's hand wasn't stuck to them. ]

It does.

[ it takes him a moment, something melancholic in his voice when he finds it again. ] It isn't a perspective I would wish upon anyone. It paints the entire world in colder, darker colors than it was before.

[ he gives akira a sympathetic look. ]

That everyone here has experienced such loss... It isn't fair in the slightest.

[Akira glances down at their linked hands, because he feels that pressure. and in response, he gives Dimitri's hand a gentle squeeze of his own. there's no real reason for it. . . other than clearly the other camper is tense and Akira is trying to be a calm and soothing presence]

It isn't.

[. . .]

And I intend to do what I can to prevent it from happening again.

[he says that with his jaw set, his chin tilted up, and a determined fire flickering behind his glasses. he knows that stopping whatever is to happen on Friday will be difficult-- impossible, even]

[but he has to try. he can't not]

[ Dimitri looks a little surprised, as though broken out of his own thoughts when he feels Akira's grip tighten briefly. His shoulders relax by a fraction in return, nodding. ]

I truly hope we will not be put through the same sort of rituals again, but...

[ His brows furrow gently, meeting Akira's determination with a steely conviction of his own. ]

I will not stand by and idly watch as more people are taken from us. For what little a stranger's word means, please know that I mean that with my whole heart.
