Rise and shine, everyone! At 7:00 AM on the dot, those who are asleep will be roused from their slumber by the sound of a bugle call. It seems that breakfast is now served in the Mess Hall. How nice! It's up to you to decide if you want to continue sleeping or not... But maybe it's a good idea to grab a bite and explore your surroundings. After all, it looks like you'll be here for a little while. Regardless of what you do, be sure to check the weather before stepping outside. You never know when you might need an umbrella! Once you're up and at them, though, there are a few points of interest this week. If you swing by the Director's Office, you will find Black Shadows manning the receptionist's desk or flitting in and out of the rooms down the hallway. This week's tasks are now available, and you can check them out on the announcement board in the waiting room. Should you visit the Camp Shop, Purple Heart will be handling all transactions at the checkout counter. Even camp directors hold down normal jobs, you know. Strangely enough, Winter Wizard doesn't seem to be stationed at any set location. Maybe it's their week off? Oh, well. Seems like if you want to get ahold of them, you'll have to pay your respects to the bunnies. Finally, though all seems normal at first glance... You will quickly realize something is wrong the moment you start interacting with other people. Or, more specifically, once you come in physical contact with them. For the rest of the week, anyone who makes skin-to-skin (or whatever counts as skin, for the non-humans) contact with someone else will find themselves in a bit of a sticky situation. Whatever body parts touched will be stuck together for the next hour, with no way to separate them. Try not to create additional points of contact while trying to cheat your way out of this situation, yeah? That would be unpleasant, for each spot will last an entire hour. Good luck.

[ he's long-memorized the names, whether he recognized them or not. more incredible than that is the fact that anyone could've survived such circumstances—the cold alone could kill anyone. ]

Perhaps they ought to have called you immortal.

[ he says so with a quiet scoff, still not quite pleasant. it's better than hostile, at least. ]

So? Did you get revenge? [ the name must still be substantial, if it showed up in that book. ]

[Ogata laughs as well, though he opts not to get into the details as to why and how Sugimoto earned his moniker. Perhaps another time. He was asked a more interesting question, after all.]

Aah, I can't really hold it against him. He wasn't actually trying to kill me. We even worked together for a while.
[It's impossible to tell if this is sincere.]

But as far as revenge goes, I suppose I did shoot him in the head. Even that wasn't enough to kill him, though.

So he almost killed you on accident... and then you become comrades. And then you shot him.

"Comrade" isn't exactly the word I'd use... He never hid his dislike of me, after all. But otherwise, yes.

[But, anyway.]

And what about you? I didn't think those of noble birth bothered fighting on the front lines and getting their hands dirty.

[ He just kind gives him a look. No one hides their disdain for Ogata here either, but he's managed not to shoot any of them, somehow. He really has no idea what to expect of this man... ]

I'm often told that. But I am a warrior, and so if called upon, I will war. Besides—if I am to ask men to fight under my command, I must face death as well.

[Ogata laughs, though it's not immediately clear what he finds so funny.]

Such a lovely sentiment. But is that really why? Aren't soldiers intrinsically expendable?

[Looking right at Dimitri, then. Those inscrutable dark eyes giving him their full attention.]
Isn't the real reason simply that you want to fight?

[ His words take on a bite to them, staring head-on into those unsettling eyes. ]

Still your tongue, Ogata. Or do you want me to say that I would not hesitate to pull it from your rotten skull?

[ Is that what he wants from him? Violence? ]

[Given the way his lips quirk, yeah, that's exactly what he wants.]

If that's how you really feel.
[Of course, given the lack of real medical care here, he would probably end up dying from the bloodloss caused by such an injury. And surely Dimitri doesn't want that death on his hands. Still, it's fun to tease the threat out of him.]

It's difficult for me to believe what you claim after seeing hundreds of men sent up over 203 hill only to be immediately gunned down by the Russian's maxim guns. If they aren't being treated as expendable, then there isn't any sane explanation for that.

[ He doesn't know the exactitudes of what Ogata is saying, but he gets the gist of it. Anyone who's seen a real battle would.

His sharp edges smoothen, just slightly. ]

There's no sane explanation for anything like that. The world is just a mad place.

[ He knows that madness well, and yet, ]

That does not make such a loss of life any less tragic. Any less... pointless and painful.

[Ogata emits a soft hum as if he likes that answer. Dimitri is disagreeing with him, sure, but calling the world mad to do so. He can't not vibe with that.]

That's hardly exclusive to war. Most of life is pointless and painful.

[A pause, before he adds;]
Though, I suppose someone of your status wouldn't know that.
