Rise and shine, everyone! At 7:00 AM on the dot, those who are asleep will be roused from their slumber by the sound of a bugle call. It seems that breakfast is now served in the Mess Hall. How nice! It's up to you to decide if you want to continue sleeping or not... But maybe it's a good idea to grab a bite and explore your surroundings. After all, it seems the fog has receded enough to reveal a few new locations. Regardless of what you do, be sure to check the weather before stepping outside. You never know when you might need an umbrella! Once you're up and at them, though, there are a few points of interest this week. If you swing by the Director's Office, you will find Purple Heart manning the receptionist's desk or flitting in and out of the rooms down the hallway. This week's tasks are now available, and you can check them out on the announcement board in the waiting room. Should you visit the Camp Shop, Winter Wizard will be handling all transactions at the checkout counter. Even camp directors hold down normal jobs, you know. Strangely enough, Black Shadows doesn't seem to be stationed at any set location. Maybe it's their week off? Oh, well. Seems like if you want to get ahold of them, you'll have to pay your respects to the bunnies. As you explore the camp, however... You may find yourself confronted by scenes from a not so distant past. Or, perhaps, the so-called-movies playing on the big screen are completely foreign to you. But that's not all you will have to deal with this week. Continue skimming the edges of the forest, and you will find yourself going down memory lane. Literally. To further complicate matter, at the start of this week everyone will wake up with a tattoo of a star on the back of their hands. Though you will be unaware of its purpose at first, it will quickly become apparent the moment you say the words "I wish" out loud. It's a wish granting star! Or, well, sort of. Regardless of what you wish for, the result of the wish is always material, small, and never actually useful for what the character actually desires. They cannot cause effects or change anything, nor will it result in a weapon or items that can be used to solve a murder. For example, wishing for an exit will result in an Emergency Exit sign materializing in your hands. You will all get three wishes each. The star will become fainter with each wish, until disappearing once they make their third wish. All items gained through this effect will disappear once Week 2 officially begins. Good luck. |

[Damian puts the case on its side on the ground by his feet. The two pieces of cold-pressed paper are slid onto the table. Yin Yu gets one.
The palette turns out to be a child's watercolor set, and Damian opens it between them. But then he turns retrieve a cup of water, coming back a minute or so later.]

Watercolor? [ ah. ] I'm sure the young master will still be able to teach me. It was not the focus of my studies for very long.

[The palette has one of those horrible plastic brushes in it probably. Listen, he was desperate. He's a Bat, he can work with this.]
You should sketch first. What you want to draw. It can be with ink, but we'll have to wait for it to dry, so don't make large strokes. It's art, however, so maybe the bleeding ink will work out.

taking whatever writing utensil, he'll start to sketch out a house, maybe? it's not nearly as fancy as this, but the shapes shake out in their familiarity. ] Something along those lines?
no subject
Yes. You just need a guide, an outline. You can trace the outline over with black watercolor, but if you don't want bold lines and a softer effect, you can simply use the color to make invisible edges between.
[He points at the cup of water.]
Watercolor paint is thin and saturated. It's easy to push around, but also easy to muddy. The best way to learn is to do it so you can feel how it moves with the brush. The less water, the more opaque.

the lines can come later, anyway. as he takes the little kiddy brush, he dips it in the water, and then into the red paint. it starts off as a light wash; he holds the brush high, and watches it take tiny, tiny strokes of paint as he moves. with a little hum: ] It is not so different, even if the tools are.
[ this brush is tiny...must have come from the 'counselors', or for a wish. they didn't have many supplies to give yin yu, either. ] How did you learn to paint, sir? If you don't mind my asking.
no subject
My mother and tutors. I grew to enjoy it on my own.
[He points toward Yin Yu's work.]
I use to believe art was about perfection. Creating the perfect lines and the perfect realism. But it isn't. Art isn't about being perfect. It's about feeling the imperfection of life.

as he lets the water bleed the red down the page, filling in the shapes of paradise manor, he nods to damian in understanding, speaking quietly. ] This sort of thing says much about our personalities, too. Knowing the relationship of the world as something that is balanced, between perfect and imperfect, is an important understanding to have.
[ and a very wise thing to say, for someone so young. ] Thank you for taking the time to share this with me.

Watercolor isn't difficult to spread, but if you want to keep it in one area, you have to create boundaries with inked lines. You have to let them dry, however. Watercolor takes patience since much of it is spent waiting for layers to dry.
This is true of other art sometimes, but especially with watercolor.

Patience is a skill necessary for many things. [ it's one of his better ones. he's always been patient, a hardworking young man willing to wait, when it was necessary. (except once, when he wasn't.)
yin yu pulls his hand away from his own work to let the first layer of paint begin to dry. his lines are fairly clean, the colors pale. it really has been some time since he's done something like this. ] Even the martial arts require a great deal of it.
no subject
You aren't wrong.
[Damian taps the table beside Yin Yu's work to indicate it.]
Where is this? What is it?

that hua cheng named after something stupid xie lian said once because he's gay. ] In a place called Ghost City.I reside there as well. [ he huffs, a little laugh. ] I suppose it was the first thing that came to mind.
