Rise and shine, everyone! At 7:00 AM on the dot, those who are asleep will be roused from their slumber by the sound of a bugle call. It seems that breakfast is now served in the Mess Hall. How nice! It's up to you to decide if you want to continue sleeping or not... But maybe it's a good idea to grab a bite and explore your surroundings. After all, it seems the fog has receded enough to reveal a few new locations. Regardless of what you do, be sure to check the weather before stepping outside. You never know when you might need an umbrella! Once you're up and at them, though, there are a few points of interest this week. If you swing by the Director's Office, you will find Purple Heart manning the receptionist's desk or flitting in and out of the rooms down the hallway. This week's tasks are now available, and you can check them out on the announcement board in the waiting room. Should you visit the Camp Shop, Winter Wizard will be handling all transactions at the checkout counter. Even camp directors hold down normal jobs, you know. Strangely enough, Black Shadows doesn't seem to be stationed at any set location. Maybe it's their week off? Oh, well. Seems like if you want to get ahold of them, you'll have to pay your respects to the bunnies. As you explore the camp, however... You may find yourself confronted by scenes from a not so distant past. Or, perhaps, the so-called-movies playing on the big screen are completely foreign to you. But that's not all you will have to deal with this week. Continue skimming the edges of the forest, and you will find yourself going down memory lane. Literally. To further complicate matter, at the start of this week everyone will wake up with a tattoo of a star on the back of their hands. Though you will be unaware of its purpose at first, it will quickly become apparent the moment you say the words "I wish" out loud. It's a wish granting star! Or, well, sort of. Regardless of what you wish for, the result of the wish is always material, small, and never actually useful for what the character actually desires. They cannot cause effects or change anything, nor will it result in a weapon or items that can be used to solve a murder. For example, wishing for an exit will result in an Emergency Exit sign materializing in your hands. You will all get three wishes each. The star will become fainter with each wish, until disappearing once they make their third wish. All items gained through this effect will disappear once Week 2 officially begins. Good luck. |

Careful with them, then, they're weapons. The majority of them should be unloaded, but better safe than sorry.

Someone on the island had one, and it was fairly large. [ he gestures roughly to the size of an assault rifle with his hands. ] But, other than that... we have cannons, but nothing quite like this.

[ a slight hum, as she disregards the rare few more modern arms to pick out something a little more antiquated- a colt saa, the gun that won the west. ]
If you're familiar with cannons, though, then you already know the mechanism behind these. Projectiles propelled by explosions- it's the same, really, just smaller. You'd need to take them apart for cleaning and maintenance, though, on account of the size.

[ that part is familiar. he comes over to investigate the weapon she's chosen, a bit curious. ] I see...

[ she makes to empty it- but thankfully like most of the things in the room it's already empty- before taking it apart and demonstrating to him some of the internals. gently used... ]
Which obviously leaves residue and other such things in the mechanisms over time, so they need upkeep.
[ gestures over at some of the cleaning supplies by the tables. ]

You're quite knowledgeable about this. [ it's impressive... she is very small, ]

[ she grabs a bit of the oil, a bit of cleaning fluid, and passes a cloth over the parts as needed. ]
Something not well kept becomes dangerous to itself and others. [ pause. ] Haha, it sounds almost poetic when I put it that way? But it's fairly literal here. It could become unreliable, damage the mechanisms, even potentially injure the wielder.
no subject
...No, that makes sense. [ yin yu nods!! ] You could say that for any kind of weapon, really. Even a sword not well taken care of is dulled and useless in battle. And not caring for it is to disrespect it, anyway.
[ he watches curiously, examining her movements attentively. ]
no subject
Right. And a battle is the worst time for a weapon to fail, though...
[ she tilts her head, looking thoughtful. ]
It's interesting how much respect many seem to treat a sword with, as opposed to any other weapon. I usually don't hear the same sentiments applied to a pike, or an axe, or bow and arrow...
Is it due to the more personal nature of the work that goes into forging it?

[ he gestures upwards with his hand, making a small back and forth motion, as if imitating a blade slashing through the air without a hand to guide it. ] Each weapon crafted has a soul in and of its own that is unique to it. That shouldn't be too surprising, when you think about people such as Yasusada here...although, I have never met a sword spirit in walking human form, before I came to this place. [ which is. weird.
...anyway. ] A sword can reject the cultivator who chooses to use it, or the hand of someone who isn't its master, as well. The relationship between sword and master should be meditative, and it's important for the cultivator to reflect upon themselves as they practice: therefore, if you disrespect the weapon, it can easily backfire or abandon you entirely in a time of need, not to mention you would be failing at practicing one of the most meditative parts of an art that is only possible because of such meditations.
[ that was a lot of words for someone who doesn't usually use a lot of words!! ]

[ does she? it's a very mystical and spiritual sort of explanation that's well out of her realm of knowledge, much less any familiarity, but given that stranger things have happened here and in their previous locations it isn't as if she has any reason to dismiss it out of hand. she's listening intently, anyway, and if there's any skepticism to her it doesn't show in her demeanor.
she just seems curious. ]
You seem to know such things very intimately. Is it only swords that cultivators form these close relationships with? Can other weapons not reject someone who would try to wield them?
[ spears like tonbokiri out here just getting ignored, apparently. ]
no subject
haha! anyway. zooming past that. ] As for other weapons... I'm not particularly sure how it would work in other places. However, it's unlikely, but not impossible in my homeland. I know someone whose spiritual weapon is a strip of enchanted fabric, for example.
