Rise and shine, everyone! At 7:00 AM on the dot, those who are asleep will be roused from their slumber by the sound of a bugle call. It seems that breakfast is now served in the Mess Hall. How nice! It's up to you to decide if you want to continue sleeping or not... But maybe it's a good idea to grab a bite and explore your surroundings. After all, it seems the fog has receded enough to reveal a few new locations. Regardless of what you do, be sure to check the weather before stepping outside. You never know when you might need an umbrella! Once you're up and at them, though, there are a few points of interest this week. If you swing by the Director's Office, you will find Purple Heart manning the receptionist's desk or flitting in and out of the rooms down the hallway. This week's tasks are now available, and you can check them out on the announcement board in the waiting room. Should you visit the Camp Shop, Winter Wizard will be handling all transactions at the checkout counter. Even camp directors hold down normal jobs, you know. Strangely enough, Black Shadows doesn't seem to be stationed at any set location. Maybe it's their week off? Oh, well. Seems like if you want to get ahold of them, you'll have to pay your respects to the bunnies. As you explore the camp, however... You may find yourself confronted by scenes from a not so distant past. Or, perhaps, the so-called-movies playing on the big screen are completely foreign to you. But that's not all you will have to deal with this week. Continue skimming the edges of the forest, and you will find yourself going down memory lane. Literally. To further complicate matter, at the start of this week everyone will wake up with a tattoo of a star on the back of their hands. Though you will be unaware of its purpose at first, it will quickly become apparent the moment you say the words "I wish" out loud. It's a wish granting star! Or, well, sort of. Regardless of what you wish for, the result of the wish is always material, small, and never actually useful for what the character actually desires. They cannot cause effects or change anything, nor will it result in a weapon or items that can be used to solve a murder. For example, wishing for an exit will result in an Emergency Exit sign materializing in your hands. You will all get three wishes each. The star will become fainter with each wish, until disappearing once they make their third wish. All items gained through this effect will disappear once Week 2 officially begins. Good luck. |

[Technology is still so confusing even if he adapted well to most of it.]
Mm, you couldn't make calls with them, mostly. You could contact the hosts but only my sending them [dick] pictures that you took, and it kept track of our tokens, too. Sometimes the alarm on it would wake us up...
[He looks very thoughtful but cannot seem to remember much outside of that otherwise.]
no subject
[ technology. also wow, phones that can't make calls. what kind of phone is that, i ask, knowing full well none of us fucking call people anymore anyway. ]
... Right, so it was probably a stripped down smartphone of some sort. [ she hums a little. ] Anyway, this is a computer. Some of the newer ones will let you control things by touching the screen like on a phone, but for this one, you're going to need to use either the mouse or keyboard.
[ jesus christ this is like teaching your grandparents how to computer. ]
no subject
Everyone else was calling it a phone, at least. Or just a clamshell. [He assumes that had to do with the shape itself and not that it was nifty slang for that particular type of tech, though.
ANYWAY. Wei Wuxian is everyone's ancient Chinese grandpa now. He leans over and pokes at the monitor, then taps at the keyboard.]
You use this part to write, yes?
no subject
[ and not like, the desktop where at most he might trigger some key shortcuts. or he technically could navigate the desktop using the keyboard, but that's beyond ancient chinese grandpa level.
points him to the mouse. ]
Try using that, and use it to double click on that 'word' program right there. You'll have to move it to get the pointer to where you want it to go.
no subject
--How do you click? With this? [HE RIGHT CLICKS, so close...]
no subject
[ you can do it, grandpa, some things are better taught by doing than by explaining. ]
no subject
Ah! So-- you can write on this, then? Like this?
[He leans over and starts doing the Ye Olde Hunt And Peck. He never actually used any of the keyboard-having pieces of technology around the boat.
Like a nerd, he writes out: hello if there are any spirits here i hope you are doing well]
no subject
I'm not entirely sure if any of the spirits that used to reside here before still are, but I'm sure they'd appreciate the message if they were. But congratulations, you know how the keyboard works!
no subject
Probably not, if this place is just a remnant or echo. [He pats the side of the monitor.] But there's no harm in being polite, yes? Anyway! Can you call people on this, or is that just a small phone thing?
no subject
That, and the mansion itself was isolated anyway, so even the originals didn't have the ability they should have had to send any messages.
[ rip no internet or cell service ]
no subject
Mm, so it's more or less just a clunky, non-portable notebook like this, then? That seems like much more trouble than it's worth. Can you do anything else?
no subject
But with this... You can play card games?
[ look, there's solitaire and stuff. also minesweeper and pinball, but. ]
no subject
Isn't it more fun just to play with another person? Unless you're playing against the computer! That would be interesting, at least.
no subject
[ she looks a little thoughtful. ]
I don't know if this particular one would have them, but it can't hurt to take a look. There should be a couple more games on these, anyway, even if they're as old as hell. Look down at the bottom of the screen and hit that start button, it should pull up a menu... go into all programs, and look for games.
[ doing this this way is actually physically painful, wow. all right, let's introduce wwx to m*crosoft minesweeper. ]
no subject
But he'll follow the instructions even if it takes him a bit of time because he is, in fact, an old grandpa. Once he opens the games, he squints at the list.]
...Ah! There's solitaire. But what are the rest of these? Freecell? Chip's challenge?
[With black hole pinball and minesweeper RIGHT AT THE TOP.]
no subject
Other games! I think Freecell might actually be another variant of solitaire, judging by the icon there, and Hearts is a different card game I think...
[ squints at these tinyass icons. in the future things are holotech and wow, if that isn't neat. ]
No idea what Chip's Challenge is. Pinball's a game where you control two, ah, flippers, and try to keep a ball from falling to the bottom for as long as you can, and in Minesweeper you try to clear the board without accidentally uncovering a bomb. It's a bit of a logic game, sort of?
[ let your heart be your guiding key, wwx ]
no subject
Anyway, he seems most interested in pinball until she gets to MINESWEEPER. He immediately looks curious!?]
Ah! That one - let's play that one! A logic game sounds like fun.
no subject
Click it, then, let's get started. It should be pretty easy to understand once you play around with it a bit.
[ hm it looks like whoever last played liked playing it on the largest board setting. neat. ]
So... your first move is always going to be a little blind. Press any tile you want with the left mouse button, and it'll reveal itself. If what's revealed is a number, then that number tells you how many mines are touching that tile- diagonals included. If what's revealed is empty, it'll also reveal all the empty tiles it's connected to, so that'll help clear space.
[ and she doesn't think she'll have to explain what happens if you flip a bomb. ]
no subject
Ah, ah! I see! Hah, so it's strategy and also a game of luck then, hm?
[There is definitely some luck involved because Wei Wuxian's luck is shit, which means he left clicks a tile at random and the number in the box is six.]
--Isn't that too many!?
[WHAT KIND OF FIRST PLAY IS THIS.]
no subject
but also wtf kind of first place is that ]
That's... too risky, yes.
I think maybe it might be a better idea to just... try somewhere else entirely and hope for the best? Then come back to that later.
[ MAYBE THEY CAN BURN THE BAD LUCK EARLY ]
