PASSENGERS: 41

You know how the story goes by now. One minute you’re somewhere familiar, and the next you’re suddenly somewhere else. Unlike previous times before, the source of your rude awakening isn’t a mystery. A harsh jostle causes your body to lunge forward as a tire jumps over a pot hole in the road. Try as you might, it’s hard to ignore the steady thrumming of an engine and the gentle sway beneath you. The faint scent of gasoline seems to waft from the outside, but as you look around you’ll notice that the windows are locked, tinted, and impossible to see through. Likewise, the door ahead of you appears to be locked as well.

Perhaps the scent is your imagination…?

Regardless, though the lighting is a tad dim, it becomes apparent that you’re inside a large bus dotted with the occasional seat and amid a jumble of other bodies. The people you were last with may be among your fellow passengers. Perhaps they are not. But worry not; there’s plenty of time to look around and get to know one another on this long, strange trip. It may even be wise to examine the staircase at the other end of the bus. Who knows what awaits you on the other floors?

Ah, but before you move too far it may be best to assess the situation. On the bright side, any injuries you incurred have been healed! Isn't it nice to have your limbs in place again? Miracles happen. But...what happened to your clothes? You’re fairly certain you weren't wearing this t-shirt before...and what's with the denim shorts? Maybe you were fortunate enough to get the knee-length version, but for those of you waking up in bootyshorts...well, we're sure you look great! And what better way to tie the whole look together than white socks and tan sandals? At least you'll be comfortable for the ride.

Lucky for you, your new threads aren't the only gift you'll receive upon waking up. Attached to your waist is a high-quality bag filled with some fun goodies for every passenger! For those of you who unzip your bag to check its contents, you will find:

-Dry shampoo
-Wet wipes
-Deodorant
-Travel pack of toilet paper
-Travel toothbrush + toothpaste
-Poncho
-A stylish travel guide

No other items are on your person at this time, even if you were holding onto it as you began your previous departure. That's a bit troublesome, isn't it? Not really; it's still a bus. Be grateful for the extra elbow room, alright?

Oh, and one last thing...on the wrist of every passenger is a small, equally fashionable white scrunchie. Not your style? Perhaps it's a good idea to give the travel guide another read.

Searching the bus from top to bottom will net zero results in the way of an escape. All of the windows are similarly tinted and locked, and the only exit door appears to be the one on the first level that can't be opened at this time.

But hey. You're all old pros at this, right? You know what to do next! Get to know the people around you, trade stories with your fellow passengers, and...well. Buckle up for the bumpy ride ahead.

Are you a wizard?

[she's too preoccupied with this to remember to introduce herself]
givethemhell: (boredom)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-06-06 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's been a while since he's heard "ARE YOU A WIZARD". Ah, he's fond... Good memories.]

Ah - not quite! A cultivator. I've heard it compared to "ghost busters"?

[personal profile] successives 2020-06-06 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're cultivating... ghosts.

[She sounds incredibly skeptical.]
givethemhell: (don't you ignore me)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-06-06 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, don't give me that tone after everything we've all been through.

[NATALIE PLEASE!! He waves a hand though, and he seems more amused than anything.]

No, you cultivate your golden core so you can handle dealing with spirits better.
successives: (hungarian dance)

[personal profile] successives 2020-06-06 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Look, I'm not saying you're lying, I just have numerous questions about the logistics of whatever you're talking about.

[What the heck is a golden core, etc.]
givethemhell: (this smile has a nya sound effect)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-06-06 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[HE GRINS, folding his arms across the bar like a grizzly ol' bartender.]

If you have questions, you can ask, if you'd like! I'm always willing to answer.

[personal profile] successives 2020-06-06 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[She hesitates, because showing too much interest is somehow embarrassing, but after a few seconds:]

What's a golden core?

[She's absolutely leaning away from the bar as he does that, though.]

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-06-06 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[WHY IS IT EMBARRASSING?? She's so funny what the heck.]

You could almost consider it an organ! A cultivator forms it about here- [Gesturing toward his solar plexus.] -over time, through training. Certain people are born with the ability to form one. It's the, ah... like the heart of your qi?
successives: (the poet's harp)

[personal profile] successives 2020-06-06 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Openly caring about things and/or people is lame!! For her and nobody else.]

...So you have magic that makes you grow extra body parts, basically.
givethemhell: (ままま)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-06-07 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
[This is not how normal people act!! Also that is so much.]

...I guess so? It's really like- [He makes a little scoop with his hands, like he's holding an invisible ball...] A golden orb, though - not like growing an extra hand or foot.
successives: (pic#14009113)

[personal profile] successives 2020-06-07 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, but you said it was like an organ...?

[For a brief second, she's switching from sarcasm to honest confusion.]
givethemhell: (don't you ignore me)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-06-07 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Mm, yes! But I meant it's like an organ in functionality. It spreads your qi through your meridians in the same way the heart spreads your blood through your veins. Does that make sense?

[He's not sure it does HE'S NOT A DOCTOR.]
successives: (pic#14021551)

[personal profile] successives 2020-06-07 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
So it's not, like... Physically inside your body or anything?
givethemhell: (People With Unreasonable Faith)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-06-07 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, it is! It's just not exactly the same as a... you know, flesh and blood sort of... tissue-y organ.
successives: (pic#14021543)

[personal profile] successives 2020-06-07 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, is it, like... hard like actual gold? Or is it just called that because of the color?
givethemhell: (boredom)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-06-07 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
The color! It's a bright gold. It's still physical, in a sense - you could hold it in your hand, but it's not the most sturdy thing. Easy to break once outside of the body, especially without qi to stabilize it.
successives: (turkish march)

[personal profile] successives 2020-06-07 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
...Do people normally take it our of their body for any reason?

[Gross.]
givethemhell: (consideration)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-06-07 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
[WAVING A HAND.]

No, no! But sometimes they end up outside of a body for this or that reason.
successives: (berceuse in d flat major)

[...]

Did you think if you said that calmly enough I would forget what stabbing is, or...?
givethemhell: (boredom)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-06-07 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
[NATALIE. He laughs a little, though...]

You don't need a knife to get it out of the body. Some people can hit it out.

[By some people he means himself exclusively, pretty much.]
successives: (pic#14021560)

[personal profile] successives 2020-06-07 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
—Who's hitting people hard enough to knock something straight out of their body?
givethemhell: (don't you ignore me)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-06-07 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't have to be hard! You just need to be able to channel the right kind of energy into your hand. It's actually much easier than it sounds.
